Write-minded Book Pick of the Week!

What an honor for Luz to be chosen as Brooke Warner’s Book Pick of the Week on Write-minded podcast. Write-minded is a Weekly Inspiration For Writers, a “unique blend of inspiration and real talk about the ups and downs of the writing life. Hosted by Brooke Warner of She Writes and Grant Faulkner of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), each theme-focused episode of Write-minded features an interview with a writer, author, or publishing industry professional.”

     This week the author interviewed was one of my favorite writers, Luis Alberto Urrea. As some of you may remember, I spoke of his novel, Into the Beautiful North, during my Vroman’s Bookstore virtual book launch. I hung on every word of this interview, for building bridges is necessary on so many levels in our country today, but most especially across borders. Luis is a kind, uplifting, generous soul. This is a must-listen interview.

     Every week, at the end of the interview, Brooke and Grant each recommend an important book. To hear my novel praised and recommended by Brooke, well, it was like a musician hearing their song played on the radio for the first time! Truly a thrill!

     —Truth is I was sitting in the stall with my horses as I listened, tears streaming down my face. They were quietly munching hay, unimpressed. But for Brooke to choose Luz, and in a podcast with Luis, well, it will be a treasured memory forever!
